Kemnitz Fine Candies was founded in 1951 when George and Betty Kemnitz began making chocolates in the basement of their home. The couple moved their storefront to its downtown Plymouth, Michigan location in the late 1950s; where it remains to this day. George and Betty retired in 1969 when Kemnitz was purchased by Ken and Marie Swain; along with all the original recipes and equipment. The business was passed to Ken and Marie’s granddaughter, Cindy Smith, in 1999. Until her retirement in early 2022, Cindy and her husband, Everett, took special care of Kemnitz. In April 2022, Kemnitz was purchased by the Collick family.
With the original recipes and machinery, we are thrilled to continue the tradition of fine, handmade candies in the city of Plymouth.
